The week before E3 continues to provide plenty of news, rumors, and speculation! After a crazy news day on Monday, yesterday gave us more release date announcements, a high-profile marketing leak, and even more rumors about Bethesda’s upcoming E3 showcase. No need to waste any time, let’s get right into it…
Persona 5 (NA Release Date, Special Editions)
Since its original announcement, Persona 5‘s fans have been ravenous for information. While we didn’t get any new details about the game itself today, we did get the biggest piece of news people were waiting for…a release date! Persona 5 hits North America on February 14th, 2017.
If you’re a huge fan of the series, you may be interested in one of the limited edition runs of the game that were detailed today. The first of these is a PS4-exclusive steelbook edition (shown above) that retails for $59.99 during the game’s launch window. Meanwhile, the collector’s edition that hardcore Persona fans will be coveting retails for just $89.99 and includes a Morgana plush, a Persona 5 school bag, the Persona 5 OST on CD, an art book, and of course, Persona 5 on PS4 in the collectible steelbook.
Atlus plans to show off more of the game at E3 next week. Look for a possible appearance at the Sony press conference!
XCOM 2 (Console Release Date, Trailer)
After finding success with XCOM: Enemy Unknown in 2012, Fireaxis Games went to work developing a sequel. After XCOM 2‘s release in February, PS3 and XBOX 360 fans of the series voiced their disappointment that the sequel was a PC exclusive.
Yesterday, Fireaxis had good news to those fans. As shown in the above teaser trailer, XCOM 2 will release on PS4 and XBOX One on September 6, 2016.
Injustice 2 (Leaked Poster)
Update (10:00am EST – 6/8/16): After yesterday’s leaks, Injustice 2 has officially been revealed! The trailer above features The Flash, Superman, Batman, Aquaman, and Supergirl fighting one another as you would expect and reveals that the game will be coming to PS4 and XB1 in 2017.
Original: As reported by Polygon, GameStop recently got a supply of pre-order posters for Injustice 2. While the game is still unannounced, Ed Boon (Creative Director, Injustice: Gods Among Us) seemingly confirmed the leak with a tweet removing GameStop from his list of would-be party invitees. We don’t have much else to go on right now, but the leaked poster and Boon’s tweets make Injustice 2 a safe bet to appear at E3 next week!
Eurogamer published a series of rumors surrounding Bethesda’s E3 announcements yesterday. The rumor they seem most confident in is one that I have in my E3 predictions, the announcement of a remastered Skyrim for the current generation of consoles. It’s a game that makes perfect sense, especially after Todd Howard’s comments to Game Informer that a large portion of the porting work had been completed during Fallout 4‘s development.
After the strongly supported Skyrim rumor, Eurogamer’s article goes on to round up some less concrete rumors of potential sequels that could show up at E3 including Prey 2, The Evil Within 2, and Wolfenstein The New Order 2. With a full press conference ready to go, I imagine a couple of these will show up on Sunday.
